چکیده

Biopsy of the transplanted kidney may provide useful diagnostic and prognostic information [ljJ. Several biopsy methods have been developed to minimize the risk of damaging the solitary functioning renal allograft. Each method has inherent advantages and disadvantages. Recently, ultrasonography has provided a safe and efficient means of guidance for biopsy of native kidneys [2-6]. Because of prior difficulties with both open and blind percutaneous allograft biopsy methods, we have performed transplant biopsies with the aid of ultrasonographic localization since 1976. We report here the procedure used and the results of the last 50 biopsies performed with this technique. Renal allograft biopsies were performed (1) to confirm the diagnosis or assess the response to treatment of acute rejection episodes with atypical" presentations; (2) to diagnose the etiology of unexplained heavy proteinuria; (3) to confirm the absence of rejection in patients with prolonged allograft dysfunction attributed to acute tubular necrosis; (4) to distinguish chronic rejection from superimposed reversible causes of acute renal deterioration.

Renal Allograft Torsion: US and CT Imaging Findings of a Rare Posttransplant Complication

Vascular torsion is a rare renal transplant complication which requires prompt diagnosis and surgery to salvage allograft function. We report here a case of renal allograft torsion with interesting imaging findings on unenhanced CT and color Doppler ultrasound. A 60-year-old woman with a history of pancreas and kidney transplant presented to the emergency room with nausea, vomiting, abdominal p...

Histopathologic evaluation of Verrucous skin lesions in renal transplant recipients

Background: Warts are common in renal allograft recipients (RAR) with reported incidence of 24% to 100%. These patients also demonstrate an accelerated malignant transformation of warts. Although in immunocompetent patients, the histology of common warts is quite predictable, this is not so in RAR. Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the histopathologic findings of warty lesion...

Post-biopsy renal allograft compartment syndrome: Addressing the problem, illustrated with a case report.

INTRODUCTION Renal allograft compartment syndrome (RACS) has recently been coined to describe early allograft dysfunction secondary to raised pressure in the retroperitoneal space. This may be caused by direct compression of the renal vessels or by a diffuse renal parenchymal compression. Herein, we report a renal allograft compartment syndrome secondary to a needle core transplant biopsy and d...

ARFI-based tissue elasticity quantification and kidney graft dysfunction: first clinical experiences.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Beyond the medical history, the clinical exam and lab findings, non-invasive ultrasound parameters such as kidney size and Doppler values (e.g. the resistive index) are important tools assisting clinical decision making in the monitoring of renal allografts. The gold standard for the diagnosis of renal allograft dysfunction remains the renal biopsy; while an invasive proc...

Pseudoaneurysm with severe haematuria in renal allograft after renal biopsy treated by percutaneous embolization.

A 61-year-old lady received a cadaveric renal transplant in March 1996. On the seventh post-operative day, a renal allograft biopsy was performed under ultrasound guidance. The patient developed severe haematuria requiring a 2-U blood transfusion. Duplex scanning demonstrated a pseudoaneurysm (2.532.9 cm) at the upper pole of the kidney (Figure 1). Arteriography demonstrated two pseudoaneurysms...
